I am a passionate protector of common folk Texans who work for a living; who are consumers of goods and services that drive our healthy economy; who share common values of life, liberty, family, equality of opportunity and access to resources, good health, safety, and peace; and who want to conserve, protect, and defend our environment for ourselves and future generations.
· We should work toward a society that equally benefits the largest number of persons while being sensitive to the needs of the exceptional few.
· Extremist positions on the issues are not helpful in pursuing positive and progressive ways forward.
· No one has the right to be irresponsible. There must be an equitable share of rights and responsibilities. And if either weighs heavier on a self-governing people, it should be on the side of responsibilities.
No one has the right to create an unsafe environment for others
I will introduce, sponsor, or co-sponsor a bill repealing the unlicensed, open carry law that is not “constitutional,” but rather totally irresponsible. The bill will require training and licensing for all Texans who wish to carry a firearm outside their home in public places, and such a license will require renewal every five years, including live firing proficiency. “Open carry” by legally licensed Texans who desire to carry firearms anywhere law enforcement is allowed must have additional, advanced training typical to law enforcement, such as “shoot-don’t shoot” scenarios. Requiring training, with proficiency and safety standards, is not “infringement” because it clearly creates a path to open carry; rather it is simply common sense to protect public safety.
I will also introduce, sponsor, or co-sponsor a bill requiring the registration of ALL semi-automatic or automatic military style firearms with greater than a magazine or clip capacity of five rounds. The registration must remain current with the current owner’s contact information, and it will be at least a serious misdemeanor (1) to fail to register possession of such a firearm; (2) to fail to report such a firearm was transferred to another owner; (3) or to fail to report that such a firearm has been stolen. Location and ownership status of such firearms is essential to keeping them out of the hands of criminals and others who should not possess such firearms.
Believing that every Texan is entitled to equal access to affordable and excellent health care, including prescription drugs and necessary equipment, I will introduce, sponsor, or co-sponsor a bill creating “The Healthy Texas” Insurance Plan that offers every Texan excellent care and that rewards those who maintain healthy lifestyles under the regular supervision of licensed medical professionals. Our biggest challenge is to work on equal, reasonable, and affordable access to excellent healthcare, starting by addressing the loss of rural hospitals and other similar facilities.
I had to address comprehensive health and wellness care to lay the foundation to discuss abortion. I believe abortion should be a last resort tool for a sexually active person’s comprehensive plan for total wellness. Abortion should never be the first and only option for birth control and family planning utilized by sexually active persons who can become pregnant. It is the least safe and most likely method of birth control to cause future physical, emotional, and psychological impairment—not to mention that the need for an abortion indicates the strong possibility of neglecting protection against STD’s, also.
Therefore, I will introduce, sponsor, or co-sponsor a bill ensuring that legal, safe abortions in the earliest stage possible are available to those who might have an unwanted pregnancy if they have been in the care of and are acting under the advice of medical professionals. My hope is that those who are demanding abortions rights will embrace good health and wellness practices and responsibilities. Of course, all exceptional cases—rape, incest, endangerment to the pregnant person, etc.—should remain available.
More Issues to be addressed, Climate Change, Energy Policies,
Education, Civil Rights.
